Puppy Care For Kids
Should I buy a puppy knowing that it may not get complete attention during the day?
Ok.. so my kids really want a puppy right now, but i’m not so sure….but my kids are making me their enemy so I’m thinking twice about it…Right now, it’s summer, and my kids have time to take care of the puppy if we do get one. Would it be a good idea?? I have to work all day (but I work from home, so I can feed him, take him out to pee, etc) But, would baby fences around the house, chew toys, and about 20 minutes worth of attention per 2 hours for about 9 hours do the job? I’m not so sure. When school starts, and my husband goes to work while my kids go to school, I’m the only one left over. If I got 2 puppies, would that be good enough?? Or, how about just an older dog, not quite a puppy? Help!! I feel like a total traitor to my kids right now… I’ve never had a puppy before, so I’m still not so sure…
Puppies require a lot of work and attention. Especially depending on the breed, so if you decide to get something other than a mix at the shelter (or even a purebred, you can find those easily), you’ll really need to look up every aspect of the breed’s characteristics.
That being said, I think the fact that you work from home makes for a good situation for the little furball. At first, since the puppy is still going to be really young, you’ll need to devote lots of time to it, but with everyone home right now, that shouldn’t be a problem. Later on after school starts it doesn’t sound too bad either =] Most people don’t even consider this, so kudos!
Two puppies might be a bad thing though. They may bond closer to each other than to your family, not to mention the woes of training two puppies at the same time. An older dog is also a great idea since many of them come pre-trained, so to say. You wouldn’t have to worry about housetraining or teething, at least.
Good luck ^^
